Elementary Support Staff Position Details

Job Job description: The position of Teacher Support is a crucial role within an educational organization. Teacher Support professionals aid and support the lead teachers, helping them in various aspects of their work to create an effective and efficient learning environment. They play a vital role in ensuring the smooth functioning of classrooms and promoting the academic success of students. Support staff position is Monday through Friday 7:30am – 4:30pm

Responsibilities:

  • Classroom Assistance: Teacher Support personnel provide direct assistance to teachers in managing classrooms. They may help with tasks such as preparing teaching materials, organizing classroom resources, setting up equipment, and maintaining a clean and orderly learning environment.
  • Individual Student Support: Teacher Support professionals may work with individual students who require additional assistance. They may provide one-on-one care, help students with work plans, or support students with special needs, ensuring that they receive the necessary attention and resources to succeed academically.
  • Classroom Management: Teacher Support may assist in managing student behavior, implementing classroom rules, and intervening when conflicts arise, allowing the teacher to focus on instructional delivery.
  • Collaborative Planning: Teacher Support should collaborate with lead teachers to follow plan lessons and activities. They may provide input on teaching strategies to enhance the learning experience.
  • Communication: Teacher Support serve as a liaison between teachers and families. They must communicate any family messages, behavior concerns, and updates about the classroom to the lead teacher daily.
  • Follows all ODJFS and SUTQ rules and requirements.
  • Follows the requirements for CACFP (Child and Adult Care Food Program). Prepping and serving snacks throughout the day, providing a clean space for breakfast & PM snack & completing all required documentation.

Center community support:

  • Help maintain the school environment.
  • Communicate effectively to staff, parents, and community regarding program mission, philosophy, and curriculum.

Professionalism:

  • Maintain confidential information.
  • Engage in at least 15 hours of professional development per year to improve personal and professional skills.
  • Show initiative in implementation of job duties and responsibilities.
  • Respond thoughtfully and appropriately to observations and recommendations by center staff.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of a high school diploma
  • CPR, First Aid, Communicable Disease, Child Abuse
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in using educational technology and software.
  • Patience and the ability to work with diverse groups of students.
  • Knowledge of educational principles and classroom management techniques.
  • Flexibility and the ability to adapt to changing needs and priorities.
  • Experience in a teaching or educational support role is advantageous but not always required.
