Lower Elementary Teacher

Job Description:

A Lower Elementary Teacher plays a vital role in fostering a nurturing and educational environment for students. This position emphasizes a commitment to Montessori principles while integrating state standards and curriculum goals. Candidates should demonstrate a passion for working with elementary-aged children 1st-3rd grade, encouraging independence, curiosity, and a love for learning.

Responsibilities:

Classroom Environment:

  • Prepare and maintain a dynamic, organized classroom that supports Montessori-based and state-standard learning.
  • Design and implement engaging lessons and activities across various subjects to encourage academic, social, and emotional growth.

Student Support:

  • Guide students individually and in small groups, tailoring instruction to diverse learning needs and styles.
  • Observe and assess students’ progress, documenting achievements, areas of growth, and challenges in alignment with Montessori guidelines.

Classroom Management:

  • Foster a positive, respectful, and inclusive classroom culture.
  • Support students in developing self-discipline, collaboration, and critical thinking skills.

Parent and Community Collaboration:

  • Maintain open communication with parents about their child’s development and progress.
  • Offer strategies to reinforce Montessori principles at home.

School Engagement:

  • Participate in school events, staff meetings, and ongoing professional development.
  • Accompany students on field trips and support extracurricular activities as needed.

Qualifications:

Education & Credentials:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field.
  • Active teaching license required (or in the process of obtaining).
  • Knowledge of Montessori principles is essential; willingness to complete Montessori credentialing is required.

Additional Expectations:

  • Meet all local and state compliance requirements, including safety certifications such as CPR, First Aid, and Communicable Disease training.
  • Engage in at least 15 hours of professional development annually to enhance skills and understanding of Montessori principles.
