Maria Montessori

The child must learn by his own individual activity, being given a mental freedom to take what he needs, and not to be questioned in his choice. Our teaching must only answer the mental needs of the child, never dictate them. Just as a small child cannot be still because he is in need of coordinating his movements, so the older child, who may seem troublesome in his curiosity over the why, what and wherefore of everything he sees, is building up his mind by this mental activity, and must be given a wide field of culture on which to feed.
A Montessori education will transform your child’s life and yours.  The Montessori method, implemented across the globe, is still as innovative and impactful today as it was when it was developed over a hundred years ago. Educational approaches come and go but Montessori has stood the test of time.

Why?  Because Montessori students are different in extraordinary ways.  They learn how to be independent, resilient, and creative thinkers who care for others, themselves, and the environment.  They learn that mastery is a process and worth the struggle.  They learn how to concentrate despite distraction and that collaboration is more powerful than competition.  They learn how to learn, live, and love.  That’s the Montessori difference.
There are other Montessori schools in the Columbus community that you could choose.  At Columbus Montessori Education Center, we have a different idea for what a school can be. Our goal has been to not duplicate or compete but rather fill a need that exists in our community.  Here are the reasons you should choose a CMEC education for your child like thousands of other families have done since 1984.

  • Extraordinary Teachers and Responsive Administrative Team

My child is kind, and caring, because she has had that reinforced at school as well as at home.

    • Our teachers inspire our students to discover who they are, aim high, achieve their personal best, be kind, stand with others, act with integrity, and cultivate their purpose.
    • Our teachers are highly qualified, culturally competent and committed to continuous improvement and professional excellence.

  • Challenging and Future Oriented Curriculum

The Montessori approach, including independence, creativity, collaboration, the works, the phonics-based reading instruction, individualized standards-based instruction, multi-age classrooms, all contribute to allowing children to reach their potential at a very young age and sets them up for future success.

    • We uphold the timeless, proven methods of Montessori through a fresh, inventive approach.  We are always open to new technologies and opportunities that further our student’s success.
    • We are committed to a curriculum that enables all students to see themselves reflected.  This is not only in what we teach but how we teach it.
    • We believe in the importance of the three R’s reading, writing, and arithmetic just as important are the six C’s:  communication, critical thinking, collaboration, cultural competence, creativity, and compassion.
    • We believe in rigor and high expectations preparing our students for a future we can’t yet imagine.
    • We are proud of our alumni students. They are confident, kind, resilient, and happy.  They are leaders, allies, and friends.   We can’t imagine a better combination of things to be.
  • Empowering and Personalized

My child doesn’t feel forced to do what everyone else is doing. I want her to be able to problem-solve and see patterns and connect ideas. Self-discovery and hands on learning helps her learn how to learn.

    • We believe in the potential of all children; instilling a growth mindset that promotes the value of effort over a result.
    • We believe in following the interests of children, guiding self-discovery, and encouraging individuality.
    • We believe in using observation and data to inform our instruction adjusting as necessary to meet our students needs.
